Tyre Price Increase 28 February – Buy Tires NOW!!
I got the dreaded letter in the mail today from my suppliers. Due to the ever rising prices of rubber and oil etc, Tyre prices are going up starting on the 28-February.
We will continue to sell at our pre price rise prices as long as we can, but no doubt will have to bump things up a little.
What do you think of tyre prices in general compared to when you brought them in the past? The problem I think is that as cars increase in performance and specs, unfortunately so do the tyres.
If only Tyres were like television’s they seem to just keep getting bigger but cheaper!
You can check our listings here- still at the time of writing at pre increase prices.
Minimum Tread Depth
How do you know when its time to replace your tyres? Well here at tyres for sale we recommend that you replace them before they get down to the minimum tread depth. Safety should be your primary concern not trying to wing your way through your next warrant of fitness and hoping for a “friendly” WOF inspector.
The legal minimum for your tyres is 1.5mm and this needs to be across 75% of the tyre width, as well as around the entire tyre. There are other things that can mean your tyre won’t pass a warrant and they include..
- Unsafe cuts ( The chords of the tyres could be exposed )
- Bulges
- Seperated tyre ( This is when the steel belts go out of shape )
- Sidewall cuts, bulges
- Unsafe tyre repairs ( e.g the famous tyre plug )
Or pretty much anything that could make the tyre unsafe.
Its actually not that hard to check your own tyres, just get out a match stick, turn your steering wheel to hard lock to check the front ones. For the rear tyres you may need to get down on your hand and knees. Run your hands carefully around the sidewalls to ensure there are no lumps or bumps.

Bridgestone Tyres – Are they the best?
I was wondering today which tyre brands are most people searching for, compared to what I have to offer. Mainly I sell Bridgestones, yokohamas and ocasionally michelins, and Hankooks.
Well in NZ the most searched for brands in the last month ( According to Google ) are in the following order.
Dunlop
Firestone
Bridgestone
Michelin
Goodyear
Pirelli
Hankook
Yokohama
Even further down the list were the likes of Falken,Nankang, Kumho etc
I then tried the same thing but this time used the United States as the location. The list was quite different.
Goodyear
Firestone
Michelin
Bridgestone
Dunlop
Toyo
Michelin
Yokohama
Well knowing this helps one realize which I guess are the most popular brands as thats what people are searching for but is one brand any better than the other?
I myself have always driven on Goodyear, Bridgestones and Yokohamas with the odd dunlop thrown in here and there. To be quite honest I have not had any problems with any of them. When selling tyres for the Commodore SV6′s we have a choice between Bridgestones and Yokohamas with the Bridgestones being a little more expensive.
A few clients that have driven on both seem to prefer the Bridgestones.
Well I guess everyone has their own opinions when it comes to tyres. But what to you think?

Tyres for Sale Trading over the Holiday Period
Here at Tyres For Sale HQ, we will be around through the xmas and New Year period, however will be taking a brief holiday from the 6th January – 13th January resuming Trading on the 14th January.
Wandering around the carparks at this time of year its always interesting to see how worn some people let their tyres get and we can only hope they are not planning on taking their families away on holiday with worn out tyres.
Its always a good idea to check your tyres before you go away, a visual inspection to ensure you have enough tread left and there are no cracks, or bulges, or screws etc in your tyres, along with a pressure check is something that should be done. Although most of us are pretty good at checking oil, water etc often the tyres do slip under the radar.
As far as stock levels go, we have had a run on our 245/70 16 693′s and are down to our last set, also only have a couple of sets left of the 245/45 18 Yokohamas.
We managed to find a few more sets of the 215/70 r16 Geolanders despite a run on them through December, so can assist if you need a set of these.
Check what we have on sale right now.
Enjoy your holidays

Tyre Sizes Explained
Some of the more common questions we get are… do we have this size of tyre? Will a particular size fit my car? and so on.
With all the numbers on a tyre it’s very easy to get confused so here is the quick rundown.
On every tyre there is a set of letters and numbers that relate to the size of the tyre.
In our example 205/65 R16
205 is the width of the tyre (millimetres)
65 is the profile or aspect ratio of the tyre.
R means that the tyre is radial in construction
16 is the diameter of the wheel that the tyre will need to fit onto. ( inches )

We often get asked this question, as though we are selling some ten year old tyres that have nearly cracked and gone hard from old age ha ha ha…. all our tyres are off brand new vehicles so only a few months old.
Can I view the tyres???
This is another common question, now the only reason you would want to view them is if you do not believe that the auction is accurate, so again please check our feedback, realize we are the real deal, and get a great deal for yourself today!!!!!
